Rate: $18.50 to $24 per hour (based on work location and experience)
The job responsibility includes but is not limited to the following:
- Engage meaningfully with children to support their physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children
- Maintain, clean and organize an inspirational learning environment
- Plan and implement age-appropriate and child-centered activities, such as media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity
- Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioural problems and prepare reports for parents/guardians and the site supervisor
- Model positive adult/child relationships
- Assess the abilities, interests and needs of children and discuss the progress or problems with parents and other staff members
- Ensure an environment that protects the health, security and well-being of children
- Work on a rotated shift and any other shift as required
- Develop and implement with your “team” individuals and group curriculums for preschool and school-age children
- May plan and organize activities for school-age children in child-care programs during before and after regular school hours
Qualified candidates must demonstrate the following skills:
- Completion of a two-to-four year college program in Early Childhood Education or a bachelor’s degree in Child Development, licensing by a provincial or territorial association for ECE
- Experience in licensed childcare (preferred)
- Ability to successfully carry out ECE duties and any other responsibilities
- Possess excellent behaviour guidance skills that include positive reinforcement and redirection strategies
- Skills and interests in creative art, drama, music, science, literacy and numeracy programs
- Working knowledge of the City of Toronto Operating Criteria, Child Care and Early Years Acts, How Does Learning Happen/Emergent curriculum
- A clear health and police reference check is mandatory prior to the employment
- Hold a valid standard First-Aid/CPR certificate
